About

An open-source extension for reading PDFs after dark.

Why it exists

PDF Dark Mode was built for exam-season night reading: black text on a white backlit page causes real eye strain, and existing extensions offered only a single on/off switch. This tool adds adjustable darkness and contrast, plus Sepia and AMOLED modes, so long papers, docs, and textbooks stay readable.

What it does

• Dark mode overlay for online PDFs and local file:// PDFs in Chrome and Edge.
• Darkness + contrast sliders, keyboard shortcut, per-site rules and overlay-area presets (Pro).
• Free web reader at pdf-dark.com/reader.html — files render locally, never uploaded.
• Experimental full-dark viewer (beta) for PDFs the overlay cannot reach.

Open source and private

Licensed GPL-3.0. Source and issue tracker: github.com/diwash007/PDF-Dark-Mode. The extension draws locally over pages you already have open; the only network request is Lemon Squeezy license activation/validation. No accounts, no tracking, no document uploads. Details in the privacy policy.

Pricing

Free forever for the core reader. Pro ($9.99, one-time) unlocks Sepia, AMOLED, per-site rules, and saved overlay areas — including all future Pro features. See pricing and terms.
